I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Addiction Specialist (ACC) in the State of Colorado. I hold a Masters Degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University. I became interested in psychotherapy due to my own experience dealing with suffering and familial addiction, which lead to extreme curiosity about the workings of the mind and the healing process. I had always been interested in being of service to others and was fortunate to have found my path in psychotherapy. Very quickly, I learned how deeply people can heal in relationship.
Talk therapy is a great avenue to begin healing from life wounds, but in my view a more holistic approach, one that blends Eastern and Western modalities, is proving more effective in treating mental illness. My approach includes talk therapy, body psychotherapy, through mindfulness techniques, and other experiential work to provoke the mind. I work from a lens of “brilliant sanity” that believes all of us have the power to heal from within, when in support from a trained and compassionate therapist. Often in life, we negate this internal power to heal, and create suffering by solely living in the past or the future. My approach encourages living in the present moment and taking control over what we’re able to do right here, right now.
The journey of the client-therapist relationship is a collaborative, side-by-side approach. It focuses on increasing awareness of one’s engrained patterns that create suffering and teaching how to deepen into one’s core values and innate healing potential. In this way, you may slowly begin to change those pesky behaviors (that perpetuate dissatisfaction) and find yourself living a more effective, happier, and light-hearted existence.
There is no one exactly like you are and it’s time to stop trying to be someone or something that you’re not.
CREDENTIALS
I started my path of being of service at Mother House, a non-profit providing safe shelter for pregnant women at risk. I worked for Mental Health Partners, a community mental health organization, in their Child and Family program specializing in adolescent and young adult work. I have experience providing life coaching and case management in the addiction field and worked extensively with NorthStar Transitions, eventually into an Assistant Clinical Director role providing individual and group therapy, as well as clinical supervision. Moving into private practice in the spring of 2019 was the perfect next step for my career. It allows for a healthy work-life balance so that I can build supportive and lasting relationships with my clients.
I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and support clients by increasing life skills to more effectively engage with themselves and the world (ie. communication, self-acceptance, stress management, and emotion regulation).
I am trained in Mindfulness-based Techniques for increasing one’s ability to tolerate their own mind, regulate their nervous system, and live more peacefully in the present moment.
My professional home is with the American Group Psychotherapy Association and Four Corners Group Psychotherapy Society where I attend annual conferences and stay up to date with the most current group therapy practices.
When not providing therapy, I spend time hiking with my dogs, playing ultimate frisbee, and planning adventures.
